Young Han
nominated by Joshua Russell
Young Han is the first and only non-celebrity to appear in a "Got Milk" ad. He was working at Starbucks at the time and applied as part of a company-wide process. He was flown to New York and took part in an 8-hour photo shoot. Contrary to the celebrities that have appeared in got milk ads, Young was selected specifically because he was not "too good looking." |

Month of Firsts
nominated by Joshua RussellMy personal challenge for the month of July was to do as many firsts as possible — get out of my comfort zone and stretch myself, literally and figuratively. The link below goes to my blog with my list of firsts, but included in the firsts are: first SaberCats game, first surf lessons, first time trying goat meat, eating kelp, and getting “pantsed” in the middle of college freshman orientation. Leigh Weimers
nominated by Leigh WeimersI had my first stroke this year. I hope it'll be my last. I got through the experience with no lasting side effects, thank goodness, because I'd read the information from the Stroke Awareness Foundation on how to recognize a stroke coming on. Check them out at www.strokeinfo.org and you can be as fortunate. |

Frank Darien
nominated by Russ GoodsiteFrank Darien was The first DJ Emcee on KNTVs “Record Hop.” It was the first show of its kind in San Jose. It gave kids a safe way to unwind and keep up with the music of the day. Darien was very busy with KNTV, making commercials and hosting, while working at KSJO (the forerunner of KLIV). Darien did a live radio show from the Roof of Western Appliance — those were the days my friends. |

Joe Colla
nominated by Russ GoodsiteAfter the 280 / 101 / 680 part of the freeway was left untouched for many years, Councilman/ Mayor/ Rexall drug store operator Joe Colla hired a crane to lift his Chevrolet 90 feet above the roadway onto the unfinished part of the freeway to draw attention to its plight. He also hired a helicopter to lift him up to where his car was for a photo-op. Joe was gutsy and meaningful. He was the first successful one to pull off a prank like this, and San Joseans loved him. Joe could always be found in front of his Rexall drugstore near Woolworth, with a kind word for anyone. We miss you Joe. |
